Just the same. Now that Trump will be in office, he will fire all the liberal contracts and award the new contracts to his friends.
Honestly I am doing quite well this year. I wasn't from election day 2020 to June 2023, but that is for personal rather than national reasons, and I knew AI would blow up and started studying the core mathematics and science needed to understand it over a decade ago. As a result I was able to find work in the tech industry despite layoffs because I have a good understanding of how things like large language models work.
I know so many people that ended up homeless. I have so many homeless friends. I work in a grocery store. I see people steal every day just to feed themselves, their family, their dog. A person got shot and died at the grocery store just north of town from me. I mean it is a bad situation when you have to have armed security guards at grocery stores to stop people from stealing food because the economy is so bad that people are homeless more now and do not have any money and have to steal food. Add to that all the people on fixed incomes who can not adapt when inflation hit.
I think that is why there are so many homeless now. I know. I became homeless in this economy too for 15 months. I used to have a fixed income. Then inflation hit and I got priced out of my low income apartment, just like so many other people.
Add to that the rise in crime. There is so much more crime. You have to walk on eggshells around the angry drunk homeless pooping on the street. It used to be more chill with the homeless and they were magical mystery creatures filled with joy and weed. Now weed is more expensive so the homeless just smoke crack, which makes them angry and more willing to commit violent crimes so they don't crash.
Or even worse they smoke the meth or fent from the cartels. They end up bent over on the street dying of an OD or they just talk to themselves in a way that is disturbing to be around. Tweakers are awkward as fuck to be around. We really need to admit that the fent problem has exploded. I have had a lot of friends die from it. Thus weed is more expensive, you have to pay a premium to get good weed that is not cut with fent or meth. That is why the homeless are so insane and dying on the street. There is the nice weed you get from the store with no additives and then there is the cartel weed that is the devil.
We really need to admit that we have the whole Opium Wars Empire Strikes Back situation going on. Fent is a chemical weapon being used by the cartels to wage war against the United States of America and the world at large. Criminal organizations in foreign states are often composed of funding and friendly assistance from states which are opposed to their existence. Thus why Hezbollah and Iran fund illegal businesses against American interests and why American money is used to fund terrorist activities and overt warfare against them.
Fent is a chemical weapon used to inflict a psychic wound on our country. How can we stop it? I say we make weed legal and cheap. That way everyone can afford the non-chemical-weapon-tainted stuff and we remove the funding sources for state sponsored terrorism etc.
The fent and inflation have been an issue during the Biden administration. You would have to be a fool to deny that these are clear and present dangers for American society. Did Biden cause it? We are indoctrinated with political messages of hope from liars that say they have the power to control things like economies. Thus people see these horrible things that are happening to our country and they blame the administration in power.
Now Trump has a unique position. Not since Grover Cleveland has a president done the whole skipperoo on a cycle and reran and won. So people remember that these problems were not as bad during his administration. Not just that but I did not even mention the wars.
Iran/Israel war which was declared on Oct. 7th 2023 when Iran used its proxy funded fighters to invade Israel followed by attacks from 7 fronts.
Russia invaded Ukraine Feb. 24th 2022 in order to conduct a special military operation to attempt to dislodge the American coup in Kiev and stop the violence perpetrated against the Russian speakers in the Donbass who voted to join the Russian federation.
As a result of these wars, the Suez canal has had access denied, increasing shipping costs by diverting traffic around Africa. Ukraine supplied a large amount of food to the world and as a result food prices have gone up.
Trump claims these two things would not have happened if he was the President. Maybe this is true, maybe it is false. It is false. No single person has the power to control things like wars, etc. Except the US President with the power of the Marine Corp, but that is still not something that a single person does. People blame Hitler for everything, but he was elected in a Democracy and was executing the will of the people rather than the actions of the Nazi regime being originating in a single person.
But the voter does not understand that. They see the world now and they seem the world before the wars. The wars are in my mind are what contributed the most to inflation and food scarcity. Trump blames the wars on Biden. This is false. Or is it? I honestly do not know anymore.

But that is not taught outside of philosophy or history degrees often in undergrad and most people get rational degrees like business or computer science. I got a history degree. Now I work with large language models. History degrees teach you to read and write and think critically.
Except at undergrad levels you are just getting one lie replaced with another. It takes self study in more than one language to really understand the extent you are being lied to.

Yes, I have been homeless twice. This is why I save up an emergency fund. The more money I have saved the more time I have if I lose my job before I am homeless. At a minimum I need 3 months. It takes a few months to get a new job most of the time, at least good jobs, but now I am aiming for 6 months. Money is time. Time before calamity.
The more time I have to get a new source of income before becoming homeless the safer I feel. It also makes me less afraid of losing my job so I don't have to take my managers as seriously. I also have two jobs so if I lost one I still have another and each one is enough to pay the bills alone.
I have been this successful before, maybe not because this time I have built an employable skill set, but I know from experience that I can lose everything.
I don't have a car. I think that is the secret to my success. By not having a car I eliminate a lot of expenses. I also have to walk everywhere, like I walk 2 miles to and 2 miles home from work every day instead of drive. This walking keeps me in good shape which is proven to help with mood stability and depression. So by not having a car I stay in mental and physical shape enough to keep my job and at the same time it allows me to save an emergency fund so that I fear losing my job less.
I honestly think that the poverty I lived in for so long is part of the reason I did not improve mentally. Mostly because I did not have enough money for food or shelter. Once I had enough income to provide my basic needs I became a lot more stable and happy. But it was not just from the income. It was from the work. Working for a living and physical labor during the day really helped a lot with my symptoms.
Working a long day and walking 4 miles ensured that I slept well every night so I did not have a problem keeping a sleep schedule. Working in the public and being around lots of people all day desensitized me to social interaction and thus quelled my anxiety. Connecting with and experiencing a daily camaraderie with my coworkers ensured that I was properly socialized and reduced my social anxiety and self esteem. I realized that in real life everyone is my friend because in real life my actions are good. I am a hard worker and kind to others and people want to be your friend when you are like that. It is only on the internet where I feel ostracized now, but that does not matter because in real life my life is great now.
What is ironic is that part of the reason I became homeless this time was because I gave a homeless person a home. I let a homeless marine live in my home and tried to help him. He ended up getting murdered by my girlfriend which ruined my life for the time and I ended up homeless, for a lot of reasons, but the stress from his murder definitely contributed. I thought I was such a good person taking in a homeless person. Because I had been homeless before so I felt empathy. Unfortunately it ended tragically. His life improved, but my life went into a maelstrom of horror.
Except he taught me how to be homeless. He taught me everything he knew living on the streets and when he was a scout in the marines. So this time I was a successful homeless person instead of the more visible type you see downtown or at bus stops.
So I am less afraid of being homeless now, because I have an emergency fund, taught myself an employable skillset for the future and the horrors I saw hardened me to so many first world problems the housed have are irrelevant. Such as I never really acquired more belongings after I stopped being homeless this time. I bought a TV and a basic bed and some clothes but other than that I have saved almost everything else I have earned since becoming housed.
So all my bills come out to 18K a year in Austin now and everything else I save. I plan on saving an emergency fund first, which I already have over 4 months now, and then I want to save for starting a side business.

I am 23 y/o woman and I am in my last year of getting my degree in biology. My resume is all service industry work and volunteer work at hospitals and some mutual aid orgs, though the volunteer work was some years ago but I got a couple hundred hours doing that. I just want out of the service industry, I cannot explain how much I am tired of being a woman in the service industry and just in it in general outside of that part. Additionally, I would like to work in healthcare in general but I am not even getting interview callbacks for PCT or receptionist positions. Do you speak Spanish fluently? Because that is a requirement at a lot of positions in Austin. Austin is 1/3 La-Tinx, I don't like that term, neither do my hispanic friends, but I was about to type hispanic but then my white guilt stopped me so I reverted to the PC term Latinx and then I thought about how the homeless marine I let live with me that ended up getting murdered by my girlfriend would just pronounce it La-Tinx which made it funny because he was Chicano. That is the word he used. I just don't want to be banned by reddit, it is so hard to not be banned it seems, which is why I use LLMs to filter my responses. Anyway you need to know Spanish for a lot of positions. Why? Because 1/3 of Austin is at least familiar with some Spanish and has that qualification.

I am just saying that there are a lot of people with the Spanish qualification which places them ahead of non-Spanish speakers. I am trying to learn Spanish and can say a few words but get lost when real speakers start a dialog, thus I do not have that qualification.
Another reason might be lack of experience and youth. You might not have the same job record as what they require. Some jobs are "old man jobs" for instance like art directors and such because it takes that long to get good at it. That is why some jobs have to pay more. Like brain surgeons. They are in school until their 30s so due to supply and demand their labor is more valuable. Which is why I started learning AI over a decade ago and why now I can get a 100% remote job that pays $35 an hour from any tech company that works with large language models, all of them, because of the work experience I have, which took over a decade to amass.
I did all of that for free. My degree is in history. Which in my opinion is a great degree for the type of work I do now. I type a lot. I type very quickly. I can type in SEO speak as well because before I worked developing large language models I worked developing search engines.
I taught myself all of these skills after undergrad from self study. Undergrad was just the beginning of learning critical thinking skills and how to read and write. I studied for the LSAT and did well but not well enough to get a scholarship so I did not pursue my original intention. Instead I focused on programming and artificial intelligence, more specifically machine learning and natural language processing, linguistics and what evolved into large language models from applications of earlier machine learning libraries.
Thus I can get a desk job any time any where. As long as I have a computer I have a source of income. I don't even need the internet anymore since I know how to locally host LLMs if I wanted to.
But it took a lot of studying over a long period of time. Like over a decade. School probably would have sped that up, but I could not afford to go to school so I am a self taught programmer.
Honestly I think that most of the tech jobs in Austin that people have are like 1099 jobs or independently contracting out tech skills to other businesses. I used to live in AirBNBs and live off UpWork income like a bunch of people I know and I may or may not have uncovered a Russian crime syndicate being followed by the FBI because the guy that owned the house was from a country Trump banned last time. It was hilarious.
I would look into working at hospitals as a tech. There is a high turnover rate for mental hospital techs for instance and Austin has a bunch of those jobs which have plenty of hours and pay well.
You want to be physically intimidating to be a mental hospital tech though, because otherwise you are just going to have to get one of the ones that is to help you inject someone with Haldol. Just saying, that might be why a person might not get that position, because physically intimidating people are better suited for the job. That is not 100% true though. I knew a lot of smaller less physically intimidating people who were successful techs by being kind and empathetic. They were usually older though and had a lot of experience.
But yeah at a mental hospital sometimes the techs have to hold down patients to inject them. I saw it happen all the time. One time this guy was like the size of a football player and it took 6 shots to get him to calm down and every single person that worked there, except the smaller less physically intimidating techs, was helping to hold him down because he was that big, strong and insanely angry. Why was he angry? He was always angry. I never saw him not being angry.
I know where anger comes from. So I don't blame people for being angry. But if you have not hardened yourself to it it can be difficult to stomach. Things like prison or the military when you are around a bunch of people crowded together and being told what to do all the time will also harden you to things like that. I was in neither of those things, but I was homeless which in my opinion is it's own kind of hell. Just different circles of hell. Violence, when it is perpetrated against you without justice will eventually harden you to violence and make you capable of committing it yourself. Why? Because you are forced to. You are forced to be violent in some way.
I did not choose to be the victim of violence and yet I was. I had to get out of the victim's mentality though, which took a lot of effort.
Once I did though I gained so much more power. I have a different perspective on life now. I don't covet material things. I covet things like friendship and resurrecting my dead friend so that my ex girlfriend does not get the death penalty.
But you sound smart and capable enough to do my current job which is 100% remote, requires no coding knowledge, pays $35 an hour. You could just do your job from home or the coffee shop. The only requirements are to first have your application approved, you sound educated and employed enough to qualify, then you just have to pass qualification exams, which are open book, you have college experience so you would do well since it is easier than what you did in undergrad.

I do make the chrome extension yes, but I also think this is a problem to discuss in general. I don't think you can always count on people leveraging public datasets to sanitize them correctly or even big labs. I'm not sure if anyone is doing research into having LLMs do chat completion en masse to find working credentials, especially jailbroken ones.

For real though, swarm systems of drones are too complex for human operators to command a million drones simultaneously. Imagine if the North Koreans were just drone operators that trained on Starcraft their whole lives, well the North Korean version of Starcraft their military developed to train their drone operators.

Anyway, the world is at war and we have to use the technology for good and not just to sell people things.
You can also just reduce the scale of the project and be able to make something, but it won't be as good as what the large tech companies will be able to offer. You need a lot of money to pay for really good RLHF most of the people that are hired to do so are required to have a doctorate level experience and understanding to have enough experience needed to know how the entire pipeline works.
But I do. I have worked in the field for over a decade doing RLHF for search engines before large language models hit the scene. I was so interested by it that I started teaching myself the mathematics and science behind it. I started programming as a kid so it was not hard to relearn python and apply what I learned with R about how data science and how linear algebra is used with statistical analysis to power the perceptron graph with the weights of the nodes and edges using loss functions and something like gradient descent to optimize across multiple dimensions. So what does not make sense why it would exist mathematically in the physical world, like dimensions greater than three dimensional or fourth dimensional space. When you take an object oriented application of how a graph can calculate the weights for the nodes and edges you can understand why the same technology for three dimensional representation in video decoding can be used for other applications. Applications you can perform with R or Python too, but I learned how to do it with R when I learned about data science.
So what you need is a person that understands how to use R, SQL, Python, NumPy, Pandas, PyTorch or TensowFlow, and has experience fine tuning models of data using GCloud CLI or any other similar infrastructure. I think that if you want to offer something to an AI startup you really need to know full stack development as well. It is one thing to be able to create heuristics and business intelligence and it is another thing to understand how to integrate a ML pipeline into a product to be sold. If you are the one that is contributing the development side of the equation you really need to know full stack to get off the ground or you are going to have to find someone to do it for you.

I have found that a good way to condense a project that is generated by an LLM is to have it just create shell scripts of the terminal commands needed to get started with code for essential files. Then you can proof read, test it and create a boilerplate you can build off of. After that I would create a large scale outline and guide on what needed to be done and what needs to be built. I will often post a repo and then just have the LLM use that as a starting point that I have developed in the past.
One thing I am experimenting with is using Ollama to host Qwen2.5 locally and then use Cline in a fork of VSCode, Cursor. I will have to tell you in the future how it works as I still need to upgrade my computer before running local models makes sense. But using something like that you are just paying electricity and hardware costs.
I have found that just buying credits and using the API access for LLMs to be cheaper than buying the hardware I would need to run a model as good as what is available. Even with the hardware, I still find o1-preview and Claude Sonnet to be better than what experiments I have run with other models. Like I said I have a potato computer so your mileage may vary.

Yes that is great for the symptoms, but what about the signs? Have you considered integrating multi-modal models to analyze video to aid the doctor with identifying the signs of the diagnosis? Currently I am working on annotating a multi-modal model for Meta but I really think that hiring experts for RLHF could be a game-changer for teaching doctors to be able to not just understand the symptoms but also the signs of the diagnosis they are treating. Observing the signs of disorders often only comes from inpatient residencies at hospitals being taught by experienced doctors. What if you fine tune a mulit-modal model by hiring experienced doctors to analyze the signs of video samples. It would be expensive but as a teaching tool it would democratize access that was exclusive to students studying at a hospital. You can only have as many well trained doctors as you have hospitals to complement a doctor's scholarly studies of medicine with the art and practice of observing signs used in diagnosis. Imagine you could have doctors wear AR glasses and be able to get heuristics generated from real time patient interactions.
You could have techs in hospitals wear the AR glasses to record the video samples. Consent would be tricky, but patients are asked for consent to be help with teaching already so it would not be a far stretch I would imagine. I don't know. Anyway, just thought this might be helpful.

For the past few years, I've been promoting my music using ads on Meta (Facebook & IG), and have had modest success in finding audiences for my music (Spotify, Apple, YouTube, etc.).

At the end of that message, I also included a link to the landing page for the song which lists the various streaming site where the song was available. The landing page provider I use is actively used by hundreds (or thousands?) of other musicians on the Meta platform, so it seems unlikely that the URL would be problematic.
In any event, here is where it gets bizarre. MY RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION WAS FLAGGED BY META's A.I. as VIOLATION OF COMMUNITY STANDARDS, and their algorithms believe the response involves "Adult Sexual Solicitation." I kid you not.
In what universe would my comment be construed as a message involving "Adult Sexual Solicitation?" The answer is no universe whatsoever, and it would be totally ludicrous to believe otherwise.
RESOLUTION?
In a normal world, pointing this problem out to a company directly would get this resolved quickly. One would figure that this would be an embarrassment to the tech folks and management. As of this writing, however, it has been 20 days since my account has been restricted from all advertising. All of my e-mails to various meta departments along with my tech support tickets have gone completely unanswered. Sympathetic meta support staff will admit they do not have any authority to resolve this because it always involves some other department.
Perhaps the readers this Reddit group can share some insight as to what goes on at Meta with regards to their overreliance of faulty A.I. In the end, I believe that getting more publicity on the issue of corporations implementing faulty/untested algorithms is a good thing. Much like the earliest implementation of IVR systems within call centers, the use of A.I. at Meta is a long way from prime time. Perhaps they no longer want advertising revenue? Who knows?

For content moderation, I have worked on before for Meta, training the algorithms to catch malicious links. They paid very little for it. So I did not pay as much attention while annotating the data. That is what they get for using Appen and why Appen had to rebrand itself after San Francisco felt bad for employing people for less than minimum wage.
I guess I don't blame them for it. It is not like they have enough people to individually deal with every single content moderation problem for a platform with like a billion people. That is probably why they are going to charge for that service. It is not like they can employ enough people to do all of the content moderation.
Thus they pay annotators to do reinforcement learning human feedback and create algorithms that do their content moderation.
I guess my point is that the level of customer service you are requesting is unreasonable considering the size of the platform. Their algorithms are going to have flaws, that is partially their fault for not paying their annotators well. But it is not like they could feasibly accomplish what they have with content moderation without these imperfect algorithms.
So which would you rather have, no content moderation from algorithms or imperfect content moderation? Congress and officials require the content moderation so they are bound by law, it is not like they can just have no content moderation. Thus, they have to use an imperfect system.

Happiness is not my goal. Happiness is a fleeting emotion and if you were always happy you lose touch with reality. I have felt different levels of happiness. The greatest happiness I have had has been after horrible things happened and I found relief. That level of happiness would have been impossible without the suffering, but it was more real and valued than any happiness from material goods or social status.
So Valentine's day 2023 my girlfriend murdered my best friend who was a homeless marine that was living with me. I thought it was the end of the world. It was in a lot of ways. I became homeless for 15 months after that. I lost almost all of my possessions, electronics, wallet, identification, birth certificate, clothes but more than that I lost my best friend and my girlfriend that day.
I did not give up. I had colored pencils the marine had bought for me as a gift still. So I drew all day. I sold the drawings. With that money I bought a TracPhone. I used free wifi to do surveys on SurveyTime, often just $10 a day, but I saved as much as I could and bought a cheap Chromebook. With that Chromebook I rebuilt my life.
I bought basic web hosting, a domain and created content for my website. I used affiliate marketing, produced e-books and sold goods through the site. I did a lot more surveys.
I have been teaching myself artificial intelligence, more specifically machine learning. I was able to get work grading large language models. That paid well and with that money I started living in AirBNBs and rented a car from Uber and started driving for them as well.

I think that one of the biggest limitations is in RLHF. You can only train the model the quality of the model as well as the quality of data. If we want to advance the intelligence of the model we would need the human annotators to perform perfectly and at a level that stretches the intellectual capabilities of the annotators.
We would want our best and brightest to be annotators. Unfortunately the best and brightest often have jobs that pay much more than what tech companies can or will pay for annotation, like doctors and lawyer for example. As a result the data suffers.
I think that the turning point will be when we can create automated annotation that replaces the human feedback's capabilities. If you can create perfect annotation then I think that a lot of the problems in models will be improved. Or at the very least be able to perfectly sanitize collected data from human annotators.
So to answer the question I would say the quality of training data is one of the biggest limitations.

I’ve been struggling for sometime now and things only get worse. I’ve been doing all the “right” things in terms of treatment. I stopped drinking and smoking weed for almost a year. I’m in weekly therapy and med compliant for years now. But I’m tired. I’m tired of living. I’m tired of bringing my wife down and feeling guilty. Feeling like an anchor and having to prove my disability every month to receive benefits that don’t even cover our bills, even with her jobs. I just lost our health insurance for nonpayment. She can’t afford her meds and we can barely get food every week, literally living off of peanut butter and bread. I often wish I never got diagnosed and just went out with a blaze of glory. Someone once said its better to burn out than fade away and I’m in agreement
That all brings me to why I’m posting. I feel like the end is near. I have the plan and it’s only a matter of time. I’m wondering if I should say goodbye to people, like just one last text to old friends, or if I should just go. I’m not looking for help or attention, I’m just curious if it would be easier for them having heard from me one last time. I feel so much guilt and I’m just wondering if it’s being selfish to say goodbye without actually saying it?

Been there done that. I used to starve because I did not have enough money. I thought I could not work. I just needed to find work that I can do. I also needed the kick in the ass that being homeless gives you to motivate me to work hard.
I could have given up, but I didn't and now my life is great.

I just had to find a way to succeed.
It took a horrible tragedy for that to happen.
Can't work in person because of symptoms? I got around that by working remotely. Can't keep a job because of episodes? Work as an independent contractor instead of for a boss that expects you to always be 100%.

I was in no shape for it. I was a weakling from working remotely for so long. Now though I am so much stronger and capable than I have ever been.
